Headshot of Dr. Eugenia Hernandez-Ruiz

Dr. Eugenia Hernandez-Ruiz, PhD, MT-BC, is an Associate Professor of Music Therapy at Arizona State University and a researcher dedicated to partnering with families of autistic children. Her work focuses on parent coaching of music interventions, virtual parent coaching, and supporting parent wellbeing, with the goal of making music-based support more accessible, practical, and responsive to everyday family life.

As a board-certified music therapist, Dr. Hernandez-Ruiz brings years of clinical experience into her research. She designs and studies evidence-based music interventions that can be used by parents and caregivers at home, helping them feel more confident, connected, and supported in their relationships with their children. Across her projects, she is especially interested in how collaborative, strengths-based approaches can enhance both child development and family wellbeing.

Her broader scholarship investigates the active musical and contextual factors underlying therapeutic responses, including music and relaxation, mindfulness, music preference, and individual differences in music engagement, within innovative course-based research experiences with music therapy students. Across her research, she combines rigorous empirical methods with a strong commitment to translating research into meaningful, accessible practice.
